Weave

A record of a closed loop.

Reference code for a bidirectional interface concept: a simulated read-and-feedback controller with software limits, kept outside the product line.

Reference code only. No clinical product or service is offered or planned.

Discuss the record
01The record

Record the loop; stimulate nothing.

Weave is the July 2026 concept of a bidirectional interface for purposeful action with a useful sense of touch: separate recording and feedback regions, a head coupler and a palm controller whose broad Hold surface puts deliberate interruption into the physical design. Its registry status is reference. The tree, the design record and this page stay so the record is whole; no device, clinical product or service is offered or planned from it.

02The physical design

An interface with a hold you can feel.

A distributed sensorimotor constellation meets a split head coupler and horizontal palm stone. A broad concave Hold bar dominates the controller, making the person’s deliberate action the clearest part of the system.

Weave anatomy with the palm shell and Hold bar above its energy bay, control board, proposed Hold route and grip base, beside the split coupler and schematic implant constellation.
AnatomyResearch concept — hardware unvalidated

78 × 54 × approx. 12 mm

The separate split coupler targets about 54 × 45 mm. Implanted micro-islands and petals are enlarged and schematic. Reach, confirmed Hold behavior, power and clinical safety remain unvalidated.

  1. Keep the two roles legible.

Unequal sealed islands and separately shaped cortical petals distinguish recording and processing from feedback. Conforming ribbons join them. This off-body schematic makes no anatomical, channel-count or isolation claim.

  2. Trace control through the system.

The palm stone allocates an energy bay, a feature and application-control board, and a separate proposed Hold route. A tether connects it to the split coupler; the model does not establish an independent safety interlock.

  3. A broad surface, within reach.

The approximately 56 × 19 mm concave Hold surface has a tactile boundary and a quiet status line. A grippy underbody and broad docking shoe support accessible placement; the split coupler uses removable contact pads.

03Why it is registered

Why the record is kept.

A registry row, a devices tree and a catalog entry are one identity (ADR-0037), so the concept is kept as reference code rather than deleted. Weave is not part of the company story: Cr4dle is a non-commercial research programme now and plans to offer in a later phase, behind dated gates, collections of consented, labelled episodes recorded on the capture kit on bought sensors, the kit licence and dataset licences (nothing is offered for sale today), and the regulated writes its concept would need stay clinical-only in the registry, never a product. Whether contact or slip feedback improves a grasp beyond sight and sound was the concept’s research question; it stays in the record for a clinical partner, not on a roadmap.

Our approach to evidence
04Work in progress

Where we are.
What comes next.

Implemented reference: a simulated read-and-feedback controller with software limits and refusal behavior, retained as is. The distributed implant, the tactile interface and the controller are concepts; hardware safeguards, confirmed Hold behavior and any benefit to a person would require independent engineering and clinical evidence, none of which is pursued.

A clear boundary

A Hold request and a confirmed stop are different states. The rendered control and software limits do not establish safe stimulation or restored touch, and reference code establishes no capability; all Weave hardware and outcomes remain unvalidated.

Recorded direction, not pursued (reference code only)

Designed forA grasp informed by contact.
Control a prosthetic or virtual hand and use bounded contact or slip feedback to adjust a purposeful action.
Next proofTouch must improve the task.
With clinical partners, compare feedback against vision and sound alone, then validate percept consistency, independent safeguards and confirmed interruption.
Research horizonA richer sense of being there.
Research tactile telepresence, virtual-body ownership and coordinated multisensory embodiment. Each new channel must add useful control or experience without weakening agency.
