Lumen
A research instrument, not a product.
A forehead EEG research tier: research-only columns recorded in bounded sessions on bought equipment registered before the session; none is registered today.

A continuous mineral brow crescent tapers at both ends. Its graphite lower seam, small terminal mark and short status aperture leave the main surface calm.
Lumen concept illustration. Design and engineering remain exploratory.
Lumen is a research tier: a bought instrument in bounded sessions. Nothing it records is a product.
Follow LumenRecord the column; claim nothing from it.
Lumen is the working name for the forehead EEG research tier: bought EEG equipment, registered in the equipment registry before a bounded, paid research session, records sparse event labels beside the capture kit. Its registry status is research. No patch is built, no EEG equipment is registered today, nothing it records is a product, and the July 2026 concept it grew from is retired.

Follow the brow. Keep the surface quiet.
A single mineral crescent carries the electronics along the forehead. Its continuous reusable core sits over a renewable contact layer, with a fine graphite seam and no central box.

Future brow crescent
96 mm across / 5.2 mm local stack
The crescent varies from 15 to 23 mm in local height. The 5.2 mm contact-to-exterior target requires new packaging; it is not the overall depth of the curved object or validated hardware.
Contact
Four islands. One conforming layer.
Four full-area gel islands spread along the curved underside. Separate emitter and detector windows meet an opaque optical barrier; the renewable layer keeps skin contact distinct from the reusable core.
Anatomy
Move the electronics across the curve.
A thin energy zone occupies the left, EEG acquisition and baffled optics the center, and compute with radio space the right. Their transitions follow the brow instead of stacking everything at its center.
Care & charging
A fresh layer for the next night.
The contact layer renews beneath the electronics. An off-body curved tray and clean-carrier storage are the proposed care ritual; adhesion, cleaning, charging alignment and removal need physical testing.
Bounded sessions beside the kit.
In a research session the registered equipment records frontal EEG, optical and motion streams as research-only columns, never a product read: sleep, arousal, drowsiness and attention, next to the force and gaze channels of a demonstration, so a later analysis can ask whether a physiological column predicts anything a fleet would discard. Physiology is a recorded column, never a product; the bounded acoustic write of ADR-0033 stays as simulation-only background.
Where we are.
What comes next.
Implemented reference: a family integration over the shared runtime with simulated sources and a candidate EEG bench profile. There is no patch build, no live connectivity and no validated sensing; a session records on bought equipment registered before it starts, and none is registered today.
A clear boundary
A research-only column is never a product read. Lumen does not claim to read a dream, a thought or a mood from EEG, and nothing recorded in a session becomes a shipped capability without its own label-validity spec and held-out-user evidence.
Research questions, each with a kill date
- Designed forBought equipment, registered before a paid research session.
- A forehead EEG montage records sparse event labels and research-only columns, never a product read: sleep, arousal, drowsiness and attention, next to a demonstration, so a later analysis can test whether physiology predicts anything a fleet discards. No patch is built.
- Next proofA registered question with a kill date.
- Any Lumen session runs under a research project in research/ with a numeric kill criterion; the demonstrator-state-vs-discards project (kill 2027-03-31) is the open question the columns could serve.
- Research horizonA column that earns a card, or a tier that stays research.
- A physiological column becomes a shipped capability only with its own label-validity spec and held-out-user evidence; until then Lumen remains a research tier and nothing it records is a product.
See the wider picture.
The kit families, the research tiers and the reference designs each have their own evidence path.
