Crown
The wider montage, kept for research.
A multi-channel EEG and fNIRS research instrument for bounded sessions; no headband is built.

A continuous graphite brow and two swept diagonal branches meet a rear saddle. A narrow mineral liner and fine underside join define the open Y silhouette.
Crown concept illustration. Design and engineering remain exploratory.
Crown is a research tier: a bought instrument in bounded sessions. Nothing it records is a product.
Follow CrownWider coverage is a question, not a claim.
Crown is the research instrument for the question a lighter tier cannot answer: whether broader electrical and frontal optical coverage recovers anything useful beyond what the capture kit records. Its registry status is research. It records research-only columns in bounded sessions on bought equipment registered before the session (none is registered today); no headband is built.

An open crown, with purpose in every span.
A graphite brow sweeps into two narrow branches meeting a rear saddle. Sensing follows the inner surface; lateral swells absorb the electronics without turning them into separate boxes.

Future open-crown envelope
Approx. 180 × 189 × 88 mm
Width × fore/aft × height, including contact allowance. The brow is 18–22 mm tall and its branches 8–11 mm wide. Fit and the curved energy package remain development targets.
Contact
Let the open structure do the work.
Two frontal and six branch measurement contacts join separate temple reference and bias contacts. Bilateral frontal optics have their own interface regions. This new montage needs fit and signal validation.
Anatomy
Balance the working volume.
A curved energy zone follows the left brow. EEG and optical processing occupy the right, alongside a dielectric radio window. Narrow branches preserve open space while carrying the remaining contacts.
Care & charging
The liner is the daily interface.
A removable mineral contact liner makes cleaning and replacement part of the form. Charge contacts sit beneath the left terminal for off-body charging; hair, glasses and pressure need real fit studies.
When a research question asks for more coverage.
Crown exists so that, if a research question or, in a later phase (ADR-0136), a paying customer asks what a wider montage adds, the question can be run as a registered research project with a kill date rather than as a product promise. Until then it is a documented family with a reference integration and an open industrial form study.
Where we are.
What comes next.
Implemented reference: a family integration using simulated sources and the open-crown form study. No headband, contact arrangement or multimodal sensing is built, and no research session has been run.
A clear boundary
Broader coverage does not establish greater accuracy, and a research-only column is never a product read. Crown makes no capability claim; any estimate would need evaluation against appropriate references before a word is said about it.
Research questions, each with a kill date
- Designed forThe instrument for a wider research question.
- If a research question, or in a later phase (ADR-0136) a paying customer, asks what broader coverage adds, Crown is the registered research instrument to run that question on bought equipment, in bounded sessions, with a kill date. No headband is built.
- Next proofA pre-registered comparison, not a promise.
- Compare the same demonstration with the capture kit alone, with the bought forehead montage and with a wider montage; include setup time and comfort in the result; publish the number either way.
- Research horizonWider coverage stays a research column.
- Any finding enters a dataset card only under a label-validity spec with held-out-user evidence; the family keeps its research status until a research question and a result say otherwise.

The kit families, the research tiers and the reference designs each have their own evidence path.
